There’s a massive spotlight on Japan now as the Summer Olympics are in full swim! All the side reports about Japanese culture got me thinking about a Japanese aesthetic concept which I find fascinating: wabi-sabi. This concept focuses on the appreciation of imperfect, imprecise, flawed beauty which can be observed and appreciated in both the natural world and also in people’s creations. That’s the wabi part. The sabi part is about how over time, a natural patina, weathering, and/or evidence of repairs and/or use make the object or element being observed even more interesting and worthy of meditation. Pretty cool, right? And it’s also so much fun to say wabi-sabi in rapid repetition! I know you are doing it now! Wabi-Sabi Welcome by Julie Pointer Adams is a gorgeous coffee table book that will change your perspective about a lot of things. The cover entices: LEARNING TO EMBRACE THE IMPERFECT AND ENTERTAIN WITH THOUGHTFULNESS AND EASE - A BOOK ABOUT LIVING SIMPLY AND WELCOMING WELL. Find the book here: https://www.wabisabiwelcome.com/the-book. And life coach/consultant Jennifer Lopez likes this book so much, she uses it as one of her go-to leadership books. See how she suggests using it in her blog: https://jenalopez.com/blog/2020/9/28/the-1-book-i-use-as-a-leadership-tool-that-will-surprise-you. And for a fresh article that gives a deeper look into the meaning and history of the concept as well as ideas for how we can start to recognize this aesthetic around us as well as use it ourselves, go to this link: https://www.creativelysquared.com/article/the-wabi-sabi-way-how-to-embrace-the-art-of-the-perfectly-imperfect.

August Woo Woo Tarot and Oracle Card Layout
The Hermit – If you have been on the go all summer with family reunions, weddings, travel, and all the kids’ activities, The Hermit invites you to unplug. Take a break to catch your breath. Go within and listen to your inner wisdom, intuition, and guidance from the Universe. The Hermit’s lantern suggests that while we may not be able to see a long way down the road of the future right now, we have what we need to see our next few steps.
Queen of Cups – The vibe of this card is the “nurturing mother” energy. Who in your life needs that energy and for whom are you happy to give it? Maybe you need it yourself. The energy of the feminine Divine is all about allowing things to happen and going with the flow of life while tapping into our emotions, intuition, and feelings. Not overthinking or over analyzing.
7 of Cups – Choices, choices, choices! The man on this card is looking at lots of options, some of which look very tantalizing while others actually look scary or dangerous. Where in your life are you trying to decide something? This card comes with a vibe of “illusion” or not always seeing our options clearly. There can also be the idea of “shiny object syndrome,” meaning we keep jumping around from one option to another based on which ones seems the most alluring at the moment. Time to refocus on what is in our best interest, what serves our Highest Good.
Page of Swords – With “back-to-school” right around the corner, this card is vibrating with new ideas, new learning, enthusiasm, and new ways of communicating. New projects get a green light with this card. Just make sure you stay focused on completing whatever you jump into.
Elegance and Creation Oracle Cards – The Elegance Oracle card reminds us to see the beauty in all of nature which folds back into the concept of wabi-sabi. Recognize the elegance in even the imperfect, flawed aspects of nature and our own creations. The Creation Oracle card speaks to this as well. We truly are the creators of our own realities – flaws and all. We must learn to find the gifts in the flaws, as well as appreciate the patina of time and experience.
Til next time!
May you always walk in the remembrance of who you truly are. And may you never lose your song.
