Changing the Future, June 2021

When you make a choice, you change the future.

We just turned the corner past Memorial Day weekend, and now we are truly feeling the summer vibe. For the first time this season, I am now hearing the cicadas singing in the trees behind my home (when it’s not raining. For some reason, Houston is having a very wet time right now). One of my favorite memories spent with my Grandmother Hilsheimer was that of drinking her hand-squeezed lemonade in the summertime. I still have her lemon juicer (pictured above). Just for fun, I am also adding a “throw back” (brunette!) picture of me standing in front of a lemon vendor in Positano, Italy where the lemons are gigantic and the limoncello flows freely. We in the Northern Hemisphere will experience the Summer Solstice on June 21st, the longest day of the year and the day with the most sunlight. A good time to reflect on how far we’ve come this year as we are all rebuilding our lives and selves.
Something I’ve been focusing on recently is making the hard decisions that we know are in our best interest in the long run, but which we keep putting off for various reasons. This is our ego’s way of wanting to be in control and protecting us from perceived misfortune, mishaps, or discomfort. From my personal experience, when I put off making such a decision, it is a fear-based way of hanging out at a sort of impasse. It is a stuck place based on illogical thinking, and until I face it and do what needs to be done, I will feel a sense of unease. It is never in our best interest to make decisions about our own well-being from a place of fear. Rather, we must love ourselves and others enough to do what is going to bring more health and joy into our lives. This recently played out in my decision to have my left hip replaced. I put it off so long, I could barely climb stairs anymore, and I walked with a limp. I had the right one done eight years ago, and it is perfect. Great experience. So why did I put off doing the left one? Fear of having surgery during the time of Covid-19? Fear of having surgery in general? Not wanting to disrupt my life? All of these and other reasons floated around in my head for a long time. I am happy to say that I am zipping around, pirouetting, running up and down the stairs, and other forms of my happy dance now that it is done. The lesson I want to share is that it is important to take stock of what is not working optimally in our lives and do all that we can to improve the situation so that we can live our best lives. Sometimes we have to figure out a way to see things from a different perspective than our usual one in order to get out of stuck thinking. Meditation and conversations with mentors can help us with this as can listening to inspirational podcasts, music, or reading a soul-touching book.

June Woo Woo Tarot and Oracle Card Layout
The Sun: The Sun is the perfect card for the month of June, the Summer Solstice month. Some of you may be saying, “But didn’t you pull this card for May?” and yes, we did, thanks for noticing. What we focused on in May were the aspects of the joy of the inner child, radiance, and optimism. In June we are focusing on the message of allowing our own inner light to shine brightly and a turning point after which our path will become more clearly lit for us (corresponding with the Summer Solstice on the 22nd and the end of the current Mercury retrograde). The energy of this card directs us to be in our own authentic power, and to let go of fear-based, disempowered thinking. This is one of the coolest things about the Tarot and Oracle cards we pull. We always must look at them with fresh eyes based on our current context. They speak to us in different ways depending on what we are focused on or struggling with.
The Six of Cups: Summer is a time to reconnect with extended family and friends, and now that Covid-19 restrictions are being revised, we will all be able to enjoy being with our loved ones once again after a long separation. This card speaks of family reunions, high-school reunions, walking down memory lane with both family and friends and revisiting fun experiences together. Grandmother’s lemonade, camping out on the river, the ice cream truck driving through the neighborhood, hamburgers on the grill, the splash of pool water, and the crashing of waves on the beach.
The Eight of Wands: Action, action and more action. Notice there are no people shown on this card, very rare among Tarot cards. This card is all about change and moving forward without any delay. It may also refer to air travel which many of us will be doing this summer after a long hiatus. It’s about going with the flow of what is propelling you forward toward your goals and dreams without resistance (on your ego’s part). Pursue the best opportunities available to you, and don’t wait around! Strike while the iron is hot! Make hay while the sun is shining – you know!
The Two of Swords: Decisions, decisions, decisions. This card speaks to being at an impasse or stuck about making a decision or choice. Perhaps we do not have all the information we need. We are seeing neither the problem nor the possible solutions clearly and aren’t sure which way to go. The swords are perfectly balanced suggesting we need to use both our intellect and our intuition to help us with the decision, and we need to look at the issue from different angles. We could remove the blindfold which could very well be self-imposed, representing old ways of thinking or behavior which no longer serve us. What are you hesitating about? What changes do you need to make? Change is scary to many people, but change is life; life is change. We can embrace the changes and learn the lessons we are meant to learn, or we can stay stuck and feel frustrated. We are the bosses of our lives!
Adversity: This beautiful Oracle card reminds us that our best lessons in life come to us through our struggles and difficulties. There is a saying that expresses the idea that God will not be looking for our degrees, diplomas, bank balance or any other accomplishments, but instead will be looking at our scars. Something to think about. And there will always be change and challenges. Always. How we choose to react to them and learn from them is EVERYTHING.
Action: This Oracle card corresponds so well with the Eight of Wands in focusing our attention on the importance of moving forward with the difficult decisions/choices that will propel us forward in our lives making us healthier and better able to fully benefit from our time on the planet. In so doing, we will be able to experience more joy and gratitude and give more to others.
In closing, I want to give a shout-out and thank you to my friend, Vickie Tucker for the gift of her beautiful clay creations.
Til next time!
